Scars

Today's poetry prompt:

Write a poem about something you wear like a badge of pride.

Martha’s Poetry Answer:

The scars I carry aren’t always seen

Most of my scars are where my heart has been

I loved too much and got broken even more

I lived with my heart laid bare like an open door

It left me with too many issues to ignore

And not enough happiness for my heart to soar

The scars that you can see are not as hard to define

Despite inside or out, each scar is all mine

I carry each with humility and a sense of pride

It shows how much I loved and how hard I tried
